Description
The perfect gift for the lover of history, railroads or trains, Vanderbilt graduates, Rhode Island fans, or just for plain good investment in the kind of stocks and bonds that don't fluctuate with the market! A true one-of-a-kind piece of history is a Michigan Central bond #183 with great importance from March 1, 1881 issued to W.H. Vanderbilt, the son of Cornelius Vanderbilt, and signed by C. Vanderbilt. This fantastic piece has museum quality framing with UV protected glass and mounted on acid free foamboard so it will last for a lifetime without any further deterioration of the document. The bond certificate is stamp and hole punched cancelled as shown in the scans. This bond has a CV in excess of $5,000, so what a Christmas present this would make!! Cornelius "Commodore" Vanderbilt purchased the Michigan Central at the insistence of Vanderbilt's son William. The Vanderbilt's extended their line from New York to Chicago by acquiring the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern railroads, the Canadian Southern, and the Michigan Central thereby creating one of the greatest American systems of transportation. Although not a philanthropist, Cornelius did bequeath the necessary funding for Vanderbilt University which carries his name. The most of his fortune was left to William, his son, who was able to double the family fortune during the rest of his lifetime but left the majority of his fortune to Cornelius Vanderbilt II, the Commodore's favorite grandson. Cornelius Vanderbilt II purchased the waterfront property and built "The Breakers" personal residence in Rhode Island and gave most of his earnings to charity before an early death. The family fortune did not grow due to his generousity during his lifetime. Pictured along with the Bond are photographs of etchings of Cornelius, William H. and Cornelius II. Cost to ship with delivery confirmation is free to the United States and international cost is actual shipping plus $1.50 for handling. Insurance is optional for US buyers at a cost of $48.30 and very much recommended to guard against damage during shipment. I offer a money back if not satisfied return policy if returned in the same condition as sent within seven days of receipt. This item is guaranteed to be authentic and a money back policy is in effect if the item is returned in the same condition as sent. I am a very motivated seller so please make an offer if you want to make that special person (maybe even yourself) very happy at Christmas this year.
